Join us this February 9th-11 to debate in the Alberta Legislative Building on international affairs, Canadian politics, human rights, the education and healthcare system, and so much more! Our flagship event is our annual February session, where we spend three fun-filled days debating member-written resolutions in the Alberta Legislature. Students will not only have the opportunity to participate in Parliamentary debate, but will also have a tour of the Legislature. Additionally, there will be current MLAs and MPs as speakers, providing a great opportunity for networking. This session is structured to be similar to the sittings of the actual Legislature, and we follow Westminster Parliamentary procedure. However, AYP is completely non-partisan and members are free to take whatever side in a debate that they wish to.

The UofA has its own dedicated students who represent youth and young adults in Alberta. Through raising awareness on important issues in society, students debate and work on resolutions together to help gain debate, leadership, and public speaking skills necessary for future endeavours. Our annual formal conference will include workshops and parliamentary debates where students learn to utilize parliamentary procedures and enhance their public speaking skills.

At the end of the conference, we will hand out awards for outstanding leaders and debaters. All attendees will receive a certificate in Leadership and Public Speaking. You can also request reference letters from us for future endeavors. 

Sign up now as spots are limited and we accept registrars on a first-come basis. Early bird registration fee is $50 and it includes lunch, snacks, drinks, and merchandise, and must be e-transferred to aypuofa@ualberta.ca no later than January 25, 2024. Regular registration fee is $60 and must be e-transferred no later than February 3, 2024.
