PURPOSE

Welcome to Alberta Youth Parliament (AYP), where the passion for public speaking, youth-led engagement, and community development come together to shape the leaders of tomorrow. At our core, we believe in empowering young minds to navigate the world of parliamentary debate and fostering a community of dynamic youth leadership. Our organization takes pride in the remarkable abilities of our members, who fearlessly tackle the challenges of parliamentary debate, contributing to the creation of a vibrant community through AYP. As advocates for open dialogue and civic participation, we are excited to represent AYP at the University of Alberta, providing students with a platform to engage in parliamentary procedures during a stimulating 3-day conference.

The purposes of the Alberta Youth Parliament at the University of Alberta are threefold. They are:

1. To provide opportunities for University of Alberta students to gain practical experience in leadership, logical thought, and self-expression.
2. To encourage students to seek out and explore critical thinking and debate.
3. To increase understanding among students of the responsibilities of citizenship and the process and traditions of Parliament.
